A Message from our Principal!

As we settle into the new term, it’s been wonderful to see our students return with enthusiasm and a positive attitude towards learning. Term 3 is always a busy and exciting time in schools, with many learning experiences, events and opportunities planned over the coming weeks. We look forward to sharing these with our community throughout the term and continuing to work together to support every student’s growth and success.

100 days of Prep

On Monday, our Prep students celebrated their first 100 days of school. Dressed to impress, they enjoyed a fun-filled day of activities to mark the occasion and celebrate all they have achieved. We are incredibly proud of the progress our Prep students have made so far this year. They have embraced new learning experiences, built friendships, and grown in confidence throughout their first months at school. A big thank you to our Prep families for the important role you have played in supporting your child’s transition to school in 2026.

Parent-Teacher Interviews – Student-Free Day

A reminder that next Friday 7 August is a student-free day, as parent-teacher interviews will be taking place throughout the day. Bookings can be made through Compass and will close on Thursday 6 August, so please ensure you book your preferred timeslot before bookings close. If you require any assistance, please contact your child’s classroom teacher. Our Outside School Hours Care (OSHC) program will be operating on the day. If you require care for your child, please contact the school by Tuesday 4 August to make a booking.

Unexplained Student Absences

Ensuring every student arrives safely at school each day is a shared responsibility between families and the school. If your child is going to be absent, please notify the school as soon as possible by submitting an absence through Compass or contacting the office. In line with the Department of Education’s Attendance Policy, we require a reason for every student absence, so if we have not received one, you may get a phone call from the school requesting confirmation of their whereabouts and the reason for their absence. We appreciate your support with this. Keeping our attendance records up to date helps us meet our duty of care and ensures the safety and wellbeing of all students.

New Arrival!

Congratulations to Hannah Beaumont and her family on the arrival of their second child, Patrick, who was born during the school holidays. We’re delighted to hear that Patrick, Hannah and the whole family are healthy and doing well. We wish them every happiness as they enjoy this very special time together.

Staffing Updates

We are delighted to welcome Sophie Wallace to Wangala. Sophie will be commencing next week in an Education Support role, working two days per week. We look forward to the valuable support she will provide to our students. We also warmly welcome Kate Schram, who has taken over from Hannah Beaumont as the classroom teacher for 1/2 HB on Thursdays and Fridays. Kate is already well known within our school community and has quickly established strong relationships with the students.

Fidget Tools

At Wangala, we are committed to providing reasonable adjustments that enable every student to access and participate in learning. For some students, a fidget tool may form part of the strategies that support their attention, regulation and engagement in the classroom. Recently, we have noticed a significant increase in the number of students bringing fidget tools to school. When used without a demonstrated educational need, they can become a distraction for both the student using them and those around them. Therefore, the use of fidget tools during class time needs to be agreed upon by the school and the family, with supporting documentation from a relevant external professional (e.g. Occupational Therapist, Paediatrician, Psychologist etc.). Students who do not have an identified educational need or an agreed adjustment plan will be asked to keep fidget tools in their school bag during class time. We appreciate your support in helping us maintain calm, focused learning environments while ensuring that students with identified needs receive the adjustments required to participate successfully in school. If you have any questions or would like to discuss supports for your child, please get in contact.

Working Bee – Sunday 2 August

A working bee will be held this Sunday 2nd August, from 9:00am–11:00am. The focus will be on the maintenance in Porrigal’s Patch, including tidying and refreshing the garden beds, along with a range of other general maintenance tasks. We’d love to see as many volunteers as possible. If you’re able to lend a hand, please feel free to use the staff car park when you arrive.

Kind regards,

Joe Doyle

Principal

Classroom Spotlight: 1/2HB

In Literacy, we read the picture book The Boy Who Tried to Shrink His Name. This story helped us think about how our names are an important part of who we are. To celebrate the end of our book study, we invited our families to share the story behind our names. Together, we created a special page about the meaning, history or reason our names were chosen.

In Maths, we have been learning about repeating patterns. We discovered that repeating patterns can follow different rules, such as AB, ABC, ABB and AAB. Students then created their own repeating patterns and explained the rule they used.

In Humanities, we have started learning about water. We explored different bodies of water, including rivers, oceans, lakes and beaches. Students then chose their favourite type of body of water, drew a picture and wrote a sentence explaining why it was their favourite.

100 Days Brighter in Prep!

What a wonderful milestone it has been celebrating 100 days of Prep! We had so much fun taking part in a range of exciting activities based around the number 100.

Throughout the day, we practised our counting skills using hundreds charts, counted to 100, and challenged ourselves to skip count by 2s, 5s and 10s. We got our bodies moving by dancing for 100 seconds and completing 100 exercises, before working together to build towers using 100 blocks. We also used our imaginations to write about what we think we will have done by the time we are 100 years old. It was wonderful to see the creativity and enthusiasm everyone brought to the day!

As part of our celebrations, we also reflected on all the reasons we love being in Prep. Here are some of our favourite responses:

Reasons We Love Prep ❤️

    • “I have made lots of friends.” – Jade
    • “Everyone is kind and loves school.” – Serenity
    • “Everyone is kind to each other.” – Eadie
    • “Everyone helps each other.” – Adaline
    • “It’s fun. I love school because my sister is here.” – Loki
    • “I get to learn and I like Maths, and my sister is here.” – Teddy
    • “I like Singing Links, I enjoy Maths and I like dressing up for 100 Days of Prep.” – Ezekiel
    • “Everyone is kind.” – Lakorra
    • “Everyone is kind, shares and pays respect to each other.” – Reef
    • “Everyone is kind and plays together.” – Ruth
    • “Wangala is the best school and P/1S is the best class ever!” – Pattie
    • “It’s fun!” – Makenzie
  • “I love learning and playing outside” – Matari

We are so proud of everything our Prep students have achieved in their first 100 days of school. They have grown in confidence, made wonderful friendships, and become enthusiastic learners. We can’t wait to see what the next 100 days will bring!

PE with Andy

Over the past few weeks, students have enjoyed developing their athletics skills during PE, with many senior students preparing to represent Wangala at the District Athletics Carnival next Thursday, 6 August, at Landry Field.

District Athletics is a fantastic opportunity for students to challenge themselves, compete in a sporting environment and demonstrate teamwork, resilience and school pride.

Families of participating students should check Compass for final event details and reminders. The bus will leave school at 9:10 am and return at the end of the school day. Parents and carers are welcome to come along and support students. If you wish to take your child home after their events, please sign them out with Danni or Amanda at the venue.

Introducing... The Buddy Bench!

Wangala Primary School is introducing a buddy bench to help create a more inclusive, caring, and supportive school community. The Buddy Bench is a place where students can sit if they are feeling lonely, left out, or looking for someone to play with. It encourages kindness, friendship, and inclusion by prompting other students to invite them to join in, helping ensure that every child feels welcome, valued, and connected.

Reducing Food Waste – Uneaten Food Coming Home

As part of our commitment to sustainability and reducing food waste, we will be monitoring student lunchboxes so that any unopened or uneaten food from will now be returned home at the end of the school day, rather than being thrown away.

Sending food home gives families the opportunity to see what has (and hasn’t) been eaten, helping to guide lunchbox choices and reduce unnecessary waste. It also encourages valuable conversations with children about making thoughtful food choices and only taking what they are likely to eat.

We will also be sending home any lunchbox rubbish each day (e.g. plastic wrappers). This allows families to see how much waste is being generated and provides an opportunity to reduce it by choosing reusable containers, reusing items such as zip-lock bags and plastic bags where appropriate, and packing more nude food (food without disposable packaging).

This simple change supports our school’s sustainability goals by reducing the amount of edible food and packaging sent to landfill while helping families save money by minimising wasted food.

Thank you for supporting this initiative. Together we can reduce waste, make more sustainable choices, and teach our students the importance of valuing both the food we eat and the resources we use.

New Uniform! - Available now at Noone!

We have some exciting new uniform available from Noone. There are black puffer vests and soft shell jackets (Size 10 & up) ready for purchase to keep the students warm for the rest of winter!

OSHC

What a busy year it’s been for our Outside School Hours Care program! As our wonderful school community continues to grow, our OSHC program grows with it, and we are currently seeing the highest number of session booking requests we have ever received. This does mean that we are reaching capacity faster than in previous years, so we ask that any casual bookings are made in advance when possible.
