From the Principal

Welcome to another HUGE year at Wangala Primary School!  It was great to welcome our new and existing families to the school on Tuesday, with lots of cheer and excitement for what the new school year brings.

Over the summer break I was fortunate enough to spend quite a few weeks travelling through the United States exploring many of the southern states, and finishing up with a few days relaxing in Hawaii.  While I loved travelling these parts of America, I reflected on how lucky we are in back home in Australia, and how amazing our country is.  I was also very happy to come home and eat a mountain of vegetables after so many super-sized and not so healthy meals! I hope everyone did something over the break that you enjoyed.

Our classrooms have settled beautifully with a great energy across the school.  It’s so great to see our new prep students also so exited about school and loving learning in their new settings.  A huge thanks to the parents and carers for preparing your children for school, and for our teachers for settling them in so quickly.

There are so many new and exciting things happening this year.

First up, we have the ‘Mobile Area Resource Centre’ van starting with us next Thursday.  This will see the van coming in and each class visiting to borrow library books and completing exciting literacy activities.  We will welcome our MARC teacher, Sheridan Lang, each fortnight as the van pulls up near the

We will also have the ‘Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden’ program start for our 5/6 class each Tuesday of this term, and each Wednesday for our 2-4 class.  Mrs Katherine Fanning will be taking our ‘Kitchen Garden Teacher’ and will be supported by the classroom teachers, education support staff, and volunteers to run the program each week.  Watch this space for more information on how you might help out!

Thanks to everyone who has contributed to an amazing start to the new school year!

Steven King

Positive Behaviour Matrix Fortnightly Campaign

Each fortnight we will be focused on one of the positive behaviours from our ‘Positive Behaviour Matrix’.  Our ‘Positive Behaviour Matrix’ outlines thirty-one developed positive behaviour statements we expect for each and every member of our school.  This has been developed over time with students to form three sections, based in respect, responsibility and safety.

In the classrooms each campaign is unpacked and classes look at what these mean, how we can demonstrate these, and how we can sometimes mess it up.  Students engage in a range of activities to demonstrate these positive behaviours, and we hope to share these in each fortnightly newsletter, and at our assemblies.

This fortnights positive behaviour is, ‘We always try our best in everything we do and have a growth mindset.’

What is a growth mindset?  Take a look at this visual comparing a fixed and growth mindset.

Accept the Growth Mindset and You'll Be Amazed at What you Accomplish

Outside School Hours Care News

Outside School Hours Care is back up and running for another year!  We encourage each and every student to be enrolled in our OSHC program for those ‘just in case’ moments when you might be stuck in traffic or caught at the hair dressers, and cannot pick your child up on time.

OSHC is offered before and after school, with permanent or casual bookings.  For further information contact Stephanie Sutherland, our OSHC Coordinator.

With two curriculum days coming up later this term, we are opening up expression of interests for those who are registered OSHC users, to be enrolled in the OSHC curriculum day program.  See the infographic below for further information.  Before and After School Care will also operate on this day at a separate cost.  The ‘All Day Care’ program will be dependent on a minimum enrolement.

Writers Notebook Whole School Decorating Day

As part of our Literacy program this year, students at Wangala PS will have their own Writers Notebook. These are used to engage students, spark their creativity and love for writing.

On Friday the 9th of February, all students and teachers will participle in a Writer’s Notebook Decorating Day.

Please bring in items that your child wishes to decorate their notebook with. Some ideas could be: photos of their favourite activity, family photos, favourite characters, pets and animals, stickers and magazine clippings. The front covers are an A4 size, so smaller images would work best.

Please place items into this bag and bring items in before Friday the 9th of February.

We can’t wait to get decorating with you,

Mrs Sobczynski, Miss Wise, Miss Longley and Mrs Beaumont
