Wangala Primary School Arts Update
The Wonderschool Showcase
Congratulations to our wonderful students for their performance at the Geelong Art Centre on Wednesday. You worked so hard throughout the term, memorising the dance sequence and working together as a team, that you absolutely shone on stage. We would also like to say a special thankyou to all the friends and family that came along to support us AND for our fabulous costumes. You all looked fantastic!
The Geelong Women’s and Children Hospital Poster Competition.
At last assembly it was announced that Viyaan’s artwork was the winning poster with Seb B, Sedra & Casey’s coming close behind. They had to draw things that would cheer them up if they were sick. Viyaan drew about wanting to be a scientist and thinking about his dreams. His poster will be made into a mural on the hoarding of the new hospital building. Congratulations to our top four entries.

Barwon Water Poster Competition – ‘Water Heroes Save Every Drop!’
Last week our student’s finalised their entries for the Barwon Water annual poster event. Our students went to great efforts, planning their designs and created some outstanding entries. Results will be announced during October’s Water Week Celebrations.
Wangala’s Got Talent
Coming up in Term Four, our students will have the opportunity to enter into our ‘Wangala’s Got Talent’ Showcase. It’s time to start thinking what you would like to perform for our school community. Each class will also perform an item for the audience. It is always such an exciting, highlight of December!

In the 1/2S Classroom
Students in 1/2S have been learning about writing great sentences using conjunctions. On Thursday they created some sentences using sentence frames inspired by our mentor text ‘Our Class is a Family’
Marine Science Incursion – Grades 4–6
This week, our Grade 4–6 students enjoyed a fascinating marine science incursion led by Cátia, a marine biologist from the Queenscliff Marine Science Centre and Deakin Marine Research and Innovation Centre.
Students learned about the Great Southern Reef, explored beachcombing items, and examined seaweed samples under microscopes. They also watched underwater video footage showcasing the reef’s rich marine life, bringing the ocean into the classroom.
We were also very fortunate to receive several picture storybooks to add to our library collection, further supporting student learning and curiosity.
A big thank you to Cátia for an inspiring and educational session!
School Wide Positive Behaviour
This fortnight, our School Wide Positive Behaviour focus is ‘We ask before we leave the classroom’
At Wangala Primary School, we are continuing to build respectful and responsible learners through our School Wide Positive Behaviour approach. This week, teachers and staff have been working with students to practise the important routine of asking permission before leaving the classroom.
This focus helps students to:
Show respect for their teacher and peers by not disrupting learning.
Be responsible for their own safety and whereabouts.
Stay safe by ensuring an adult knows where they are at all times.
Maintain learning time by minimising unnecessary interruptions.
Families can support this focus at home by discussing why it’s important to let an adult know where you are and by encouraging children to practise this habit in everyday situations.
Together, we can help our students develop positive routines that support a safe and respectful learning environment.
Farewell to Our School Chickens
Over the past few months, we have sadly farewelled several of our beloved school chickens.
They have been a special part of life at Wangala Primary School for the past three years, teaching our students about care, responsibility, and the role animals play in a sustainable garden environment.
Our last remaining chicken has now been fostered by a wonderful family from our school community, where she will continue to be cared for in a loving home!
At this stage, we do not have plans to replace the chickens, but we would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all of the students, staff, and families who have contributed to caring for the chickens during their time at our school. Your support has been invaluable, and together we created a nurturing environment where our chickens were well loved.
They will be remembered as an important and much enjoyed part of our kitchen garden journey!
