From the Principal

Welcome back to everyone.  I hope that all in our community had time to relax and recharge during the break, doing something that brings you joy.  Thank you to everyone that braved the cold to attend to our chickens over the break.  They were very well looked after! We had an escapee chicken yesterday that the fabulous Steph from OSHC rescued!

Due to some timetable changes, this term we have decided to hold our assemblies on a Friday afternoon each fortnight.  Unfortunately, due to the Lightning Premiership next Friday, our first assembly will not be until Friday, 2nd August at 2.45pm in the gymnasium.  Please remember to check the newsletter dates for these events.  Our assemblies are a time to celebrate the learning in classrooms, and to congratulate some of our Star Students, who have shown exceptional positive behaviour choices.

This term we’ve welcomed new staff member, Ella Ballinger, who will be working in an education support position across classrooms.

On Wednesday, the Student Led Conferences will be held from 11.30am.  This is a wonderful opportunity for parents and carers to come into the school and celebrate the learning of your children.  Student Led Conferences were opened on Monday of this week, with bookings made through Compass.  We encourage everyone to book your time in.  See further in the newsletter for more information on the arrangements for the day.

Lastly, on Sunday, 28th July, we will be holding a Working Bee at the school from 9.00am until 1.00pm, with many tasks (both indoor and outdoor) organised.  We encourage everyone to come along to help maintain our school as the best looking school in Geelong!

Stay warm everyone!

Regards,

Steven King

Student Led Conferences

Student Led Conferences will be held on Wednesday, 24th July from 11.30am, with bookings made through the Compass system.  Student Led Conferences are facilitated with the teacher, parent/carer and the student, with the students sharing their accomplishments from the first semester of school.  We encourage everyone to book in a conference time.

Due to classes continuing to learn during the day, conferences will be held in different locations across the school.

Mrs Beaumont will be seeing parents and carers of P/1B students in our meeting room, with parents and carers welcome to sit in the foyer while they wait for their conferences time.

Miss Longley will be seeing parents and carers of P/1L students in the Art Room located in the Djirnap Building.  Parents and carers are invited to sit in the multipurpose area of the Djirnap Building while waiting for their conference time.

Miss Wise will be seeing parents and carers of the 2-4W students in the 2-4W Classroom located in the Djirnap Building.  Parents and carers are invited to sit in the multipurpose area of the Djirnap Building while waiting for their conference time.

Mrs Sobczynski will be seeing parents and carers of the 5/6S students in the STEAM Room located in the Djirnap Building.  Parents and carers are invited to sit in the multipurpose area of the Djirnap Building while waiting for their conference time.

If conference times are during class hours, students will be sent to the conference location a few minutes before the conference begins.  If you have booked a conference time outside of school hours, you are asked to bring your child back for their Student Led Conference.

We look forward to celebrating the amazing learning of each and every student with you!

Positive Behaviour Matrix Fortnightly Campaign

Our campaign for this fortnight is ‘we move around safely’.  At Wangala Primary School all students are aware that we do not run or rush about when inside to ensure that no accidents happen.  At the beginning of the year, and as a reminder at the beginning of every term, we also take students on a walk across the school site and explain where students should be careful and should be moving at a walking pace.  This especially focuses on the courtyard between the Djirnap and Parrwang buildings, and on the decking and ramps, and wherever there is a congregation of people.  Luckily, we have more than enough space for every student to run and race around across our grounds!

Grade 4/5/6

This week we started our unit on fractions. Students have created their own fraction walls by folding strips of paper into equal parts. They then used some trial and error in creating, colouring and labelling different fractions within a range of shapes.

Fun in Art!

It’s delightful seeing the students create alongside one another!
