From the Principal

For those of you fortunate enough to be there for ‘Wangala’s got Talent’, what an absolute delight to see our many performers performing magic tricks, humouring us with their jokes, performing their own choreography, singing their hearts out, and regaling us with their instruments.  We were extremely pressed for time due to the overwhelming amount of talent that Wangala had to be showcased, but we couldn’t be prouder of each and every performer.  Well done to all performers, and a big thank you to Ms Whytcross for organising this event.  A special mention must go to our OSHC coordinator and all-round star for accompanying one reluctant pianist supporting her through some interpretive dance!  If that doesn’t showcase how our staff go above and beyond to support our students, I don’t know what does!

Earlier this week our grade sixes graduated in a ceremony held in the gymnasium.  Each of the graduates read their own speech highlighting their favourite memories from their time at Wangala Primary School, and also shared a quote that was meaningful to them.  I shared one of my favourite quotes from Dr Seuss, ‘You have brains in your head, and feet in your shoes, you can steer yourself in any direction you choose!’  I feel this is relevant in any situation, especially to our graduates as they complete their primary schooling and embark on a new journey through secondary school.  The opportunities they will have before them during this time will help to shape them and build them up for amazing things in their lives, as they steer themselves in whatever direction they choose.  All the staff at Wangala Primary School could not be prouder of each graduate.  A friend of Wangala Primary School, Christine Couzens M.P., joined our graduation and presented Willow with an award, while Lily received an award from the office of Deputy Prime Minister Richard Marles.  Both were recognised for their outstanding leadership and community mindedness.  Congratulations Lily and Willow!

The final assembly for the year was held yesterday with the announcement of our 2024 school leaders.  We’re so pleased to announce that Dayne, Bethan, Alex and Victoria will be our overall school leaders for the year.  Congratulations to these four students, and to our other leaders who will have picked up various leadership roles for the new year.  Bethan was also the recipient of the Lions Club of South Barwon bursary in recognition of the values she displays each day.  Congratulations, Bethan!

As we round out the year, I end by wishing everyone a very Merry Christmas and a safe and relaxing holiday break.  I look forward to seeing our returning families at the beginning of 2024 as we launch into a new year of learning!

Wangala's Got Talent

Wellbeing Office and Holiday Ideas

In 2023 the Wellbeing team made some changes to the wellbeing office! We added a bowl of fidget toys, a “check your engine” emotional regulation tool, colourful decals and the students provided artwork and letters to Theodore the turtle for our wall.

This year students have really enjoyed playing card games with ‘Taco, Goat, Pizza, Cheese’ and UNO FLIP  being some of the favorite’s.

It’s been a joy to spend time with the students in the wellbeing space throughout 2023, we look forward to seeing all the students back in 2024!

We thought it might be handy to provide some places where you can purchase fidgets as you may find them helpful over the school holiday break.

  • is a great website to find all your fidget needs.
  • Sensory Kingdom in Belmont is another great shop to check out.
  • Kmart often have a number of great fidget/sensory toys too.

Check out the image below with some fun activities to do with the kids over the holidays!

Andy, Angela and I (Holly) hope everyone has a safe and happy holidays and look forward to seeing everyone in the New Year!
