Parent/Carer Survey
A reminder that Wangala is currently seeking parent/carer feedback through the 2026 Parent/Carer Opinion Survey. To date, we have 13 responses, and it would be great to hear from as many families as possible. Feedback provided helps us understand families’ views on school climate, student behaviour and student engagement, and assists with identifying areas for improvement, professional development and future planning. Please note that this survey is separate from the School Review Parent Focus Group recently completed, and it conducted annually in all Victorian government schools. It will close on Friday 18 September 2026. Please refer to the recent Compass post for full details and instructions.
Footy Colours Day
Footy Colours Day was a great success yesterday. It was fantastic to see students, staff and families getting into the spirit of the day in outfits supporting their favourite teams. Students showed great participation in the tabloid rotations, followed by a well-deserved hot dog lunch. A highlight of the afternoon was our Year 5/6 students taking on staff and parents in a game of soccer. In a high-stakes contest, the students were awarded the victory following a dubious referee decision that disallowed the Principal’s goal! A special thanks to Andy for her organisation of the day, which ran extremely smoothly, and to all our family and community members who came along and joined in the fun.
OSHC Fees
A reminder that School Council has approved an increase to OSHC fees from the start of Term 4:
– Permanent bookings
o Before School Care – $30
o After School Care – $35
– Casual bookings:
o Before School Care – $32
o After School Care – $37
This adjustment helps us absorb increased costs while still continuing to provide a quality OSHC program.
Geelong Wonder Schools
The Geelong Wonder Schools Showcase is next Wednesday, 16 September, and our students are getting ready to take the stage at the Geelong Arts Centre. They have been working hard during Performing Arts sessions and are excited to showcase their talent and the progress they have made. Our P/1S and 1/2HB classes will perform Spectacular 70s, while 2/3K, 3/4A and 5/6DA will perform Broadway. For families wanting access to tickets, we have been advised that there may be last minute tickets become available next week, so go onto the website (see Compass post) and join the waitlist.
Last Day of Term
A reminder that the last day of Term 3 next Friday is a 2:30pm finish. Our final assembly will be held at 1:30pm, followed by open classrooms until dismissal. We encourage all families to come along to the assembly and then visit classrooms afterwards to see your child’s learning and celebrate their achievements throughout the term.
Kind regards,
Joe Doyle
Principal

Classroom Spotlight: 5/6AD
Our Grade 5/6 students have really embraced being community-minded members of Wangala this year and have enjoyed taking on a range of leadership opportunities throughout the year. These experiences have allowed students to contribute to our school community, support younger students and develop their leadership skills.
Some examples include visiting our local kindergarten, helping with major school events such as Footy Colours Day, working in the Kitchen Garden, baking for our weekly Snack Bar and participating in weekly Buddy sessions with our Prep–2 classes. It has been fantastic to see our students step up, support others and take pride in making a positive contribution to our school community.
Garden
‘We move dirt and pretend to be ‘Door Dash’ delivering the dirt in wheelbarrows and buckets. We move the first to garden beds to make them big and strong. We water plants and they turn strong and big. We do these things to step up for leadership and help our school garden grow.’ Jaxon and Connor
Kindergarten Buddies
‘Grade ⅚ students go 2-3 times a term to visit the kindergarten, we love to go visit and interact with the kids. We have lots of fun playing and talking with them. We love to socialise and make them have more familiar faces in the future.’ Paxton, Lenny, Tanny & Josh
Footy Colours Day
‘We are doing footy day, a day where people can play soccer, footy or rugby. It’s going to be so much fun for everyone. We’re helping the program to teach younger grades with fun and exciting games and activities for everyone to join in with. We are hoping that everyone enjoys our time and effort that we put in and we are excited to share some more of our leadership in the future.’ Choesang and Aurora
BOOK WEEK @ WANGALA
Book Week Parade
What a wonderful Book Week Parade we had at Wangala! Our students and staff looked fantastic as they brought their favourite book characters to life with some very creative and fun costumes.
It was so lovely to see everyone getting into the Book Week spirit and celebrating our love of books and reading together!
Footy Colours Day
The weather turned it on for our Footy Colours Day on Thursday, providing perfect conditions for everyone to get outside, enjoy the sunshine and have plenty of fun! Students took part in a rotation of activities throughout the afternoon, with AFL, rugby and soccer keeping everyone active and engaged.
The hot dogs and Zooper Doopers at lunchtime were definitely a favourite, as was the highly anticipated Staff vs Senior Students Soccer Match!
A big thank you to all the parents, carers, families and friends who came along to join in and support the afternoon. Thank you also to our staff for helping to organise and run such a fun afternoon. Most importantly, well done to all our students for getting involved, having a go and embracing the spirit of the day. It was fantastic to see everyone enjoying themselves and showing such great enthusiasm and sportsmanship!
Swimming Program - Term 4
We are very excited to announce that our 2026 Swimming Program will be held at Leisure Link in Waurn Ponds. We are thrilled to have this venue, which is closer to Wangala Primary School and provides the 45-minute swimming sessions we require.
We will be running a one-week intensive swimming program during Week 7 of Term 4. The program is an important part of our Physical Education curriculum and has been fully endorsed by School Council. All students are expected to participate unless they have a medical condition that prevents them from attending.
Students will participate in five swimming sessions across the week, with 45-minute lessons.
The compass events went live this past week, they include plenty of further information regarding the program, session times, costs etc
Thankyou to everyone who has already paid & consented.
Please mark these dates in your diary:
Monday 16 November – Friday 20 November 2026 (Term 4, Week 7)
We are really looking forward to getting our students into the pool and making the most of this fantastic opportunity!
Andy – Physical Education
Award Recipients...
Congratulations to these well deserved recipients of the Star Student, Student Leader, Physical Education and Wellbeing Awards.
Media Permissions reminder
Wangala Primary School remains committed to ensuring the safety and wellbeing of every student in our school.
Throughout the year, some families have received a media permission form where their child’s current status is listed as ‘unspecified’. If you have received one of these forms, we would really appreciate you taking a moment to complete it so we can ensure our records reflect your current preferences.
We completely respect every family’s decision regarding media permissions. This is simply an opportunity to make sure we have the most accurate information on file and that your wishes are known.
If you would like to update your media preferences at any time, or require another copy of the form, please contact the school office and we will be happy to help.
Thanks for your help!
